Blowing Away The Cobwebs

Hey, it's been a while.

'New phone, who dis?' you reply.

Oh shit, yeah. Um, it's me, Amber. Formerly The Mile Long Bookshelf, that book blog I kept going for like a million years and then neglected.

...It was red? And grey? No? Cool, awkward.

Anyhoo, I'm back, and as you can see I've made a lot of changes - or perhaps 'completely overhauled the entire thing' would be better wording.

The Mile Long Bookshelf was my life from December 2009 until October 2017. I was dedicated. I was constantly writing posts, taking photos, filming videos, responding to emails... and I loved it, but I don't think I had a break for eight years. Those eight years also happened to be my entire adolescence, and a lot changes in that time. When I fell out of love with my blog in October 2017, I was a week away from turning nineteen. My childhood and adolescence was over. And for that entire year that I was nineteen, I only blogged a handful of times.

Two months ago I turned twenty, and I decided to dust off the cobwebs. A year apart helped me to realise that the online corner I had created just wasn't me anymore, and more importantly, that that was okay. Yes, I spent years and years building something up, but if it wasn't working anymore or bringing me any joy whatsoever then what was I doing? I'm an adult now (apparently). I wasn't even a teenager yet when I began this whole thing.

I grew up, and I've finally decided to bring this place up-to-date with who I am now.

So, welcome to my new self-titled space. Most of my old blog posts are here, but this is no longer a book blog. I'll be sharing my life, my travels, the food I love and the books I (yes, still) enjoy. I'll be censoring myself less, putting less pressure on myself, and doing things differently to how I did them before.

Sorry, the old blog can't come to the phone right now. Why? Oh... because she's dead. (Sorry, I had to.)

Thanks for sticking around while I figured stuff out. I'm excited!

Amber x

  1. Glad you're back, I've missed you! Every now and then it's good to change things up. It's way too easy to continue with old habits just because it's what you've always done. Hopefully this is the revamp you need. :)

    1. Thank you! Yep, it's hard but sometimes you have to just bite the bullet and do what scares you. Sometimes it pays off. :)

  2. Happy Birthday! I can't believe you're 20 years old now, I've been reading your blog for a long time.

  3. i guess maybe i should dust off my blog too at some point, oops. except no one would even realise or care. at least one of us is a celeb
